I'm all for talking it out, but in this case I think you did what's best with never inviting him back.
Munchkin or the Chez games are my screening process. If people can take the backstabbing and play the games hard, as they are supposed to be played, the chances are very good they can take whatever is thrown at them in the rounds I play in. Settlers of Catan also works.???https://www.blogger.com/profile/00467285279627231933noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387576523369148744.post-12902768239990254852012-03-14T19:30:14.832+00:002012-03-14T19:30:14.832+00:00I found that new gamers in my groups got more obno...I found that new gamers in my groups got more obnoxious as I got older, especially the experienced ones who thought they knew it all! A father and son tag team sounds like a nightmare.

All in all my gaming experience has been very positive and only an extreme minority have been disruptive.Farsight Bloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08992068691142951379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387576523369148744.post-51682118474569532182012-03-14T19:27:52.479+00:002012-03-14T19:27:52.479+00:00That's possible, but as I don't live alone...That's possible, but as I don't live alone anymore and I have children I like to make sure who it is I'm having round - I was much more relaxed about it when I lived on my own. I'm not sure about his passable social skills, but I guess he could have faked his way in.

I never really found out why my 'friend' dumped the guy on us - probably for the reasons why I mentioned in the post - but I guess I'll never know now. It was a bit of a dick thing to do, if that was his full intention.Farsight Bloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08992068691142951379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387576523369148744.post-67449052240594135622012-03-14T19:24:45.062+00:002012-03-14T19:24:45.062+00:00He wasonly really with us for two sessions and, ev...He wasonly really with us for two sessions and, even after a bad first session, I like to give new guys the benefit of the doubt. I'm not one to start a fight and I wasn't sure how he'd take a straight forward 'Get outta here!' so I just stopped the game.

I never really saw the other guy again - he was at university and I think I saw him once more a while later when the whole sorry thing had been forgotten about. I should have asked him, really.Farsight Bloggerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08992068691142951379noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387576523369148744.post-26634552862523359502012-03-14T14:13:56.437+00:002012-03-14T14:13:56.437+00:00I had to put up with people almost that obnoxious ...I had to put up with people almost that obnoxious in a university gaming club.
I still do the screening thing, since we play at my home, and I have a kid, but I think Alex may be right. We had to boot a pair of players (father & son!) because of a host of obnoxious things they did, mainly disrespecting other players and my rulings as DM. That's no fun.Mike Monacohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11474135378521139178noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6387576523369148744.post-34505881928115864602012-03-14T12:51:01.387+00:002012-03-14T12:51:01.387+00:00I have screened players before ("meet for cof...I have screened players before ("meet for coffee") and never had anybody disqualify themselves at the first meeting. There were three or four players that ended up not being good fits, but since the first screening didn't identify them, I've stopped doing screenings. Just come over and play. You say this Roger person had no social skills -- my fear would be that he'd have enough social skills to pass a "drink coffee and smalltalk" test.

What I don't understand is your friend who invited him over.
